About Jorge
What’s Your “Why”?
After leaving Austin for a slower-paced life in San Antonio, I discovered ClaimWizard and was immediately drawn to the company’s vision and values. Meeting Dave and Lynette reinforced my belief in the meaningful work ClaimWizard offers. I’ve worked for large corporations, including the biggest bank in San Antonio, but my goal has always been to find a place where my contributions matter. When Dave asked me during my interview why I wanted to join ClaimWizard instead of a larger company, I told him this: I want my work to have real value. I want to be proud of what I create and see its tangible impact. I’m not the type of engineer who leaves before a project reaches production—I’m fully committed to seeing every project through to the end.
What’s a Fun Fact About You That Not Many People Know?
I have family in Mérida and Cancún, Mexico, so visiting these areas is a cherished tradition for me and my family. In 2024, we spent nearly a month in Cancún and had the incredible experience of watching sea turtles lay their eggs. Despite my efforts to keep my family from touching the turtles, at least one received a few gentle pets during our trip!
What’s the Best Piece of Career Advice You’ve Ever Received?
“Lead, follow, or get out of the way.” This advice resonates with me because it emphasizes the importance of adaptability and giving your all—whether leading, collaborating as a team member, or stepping back to let others shine.
What’s Your Favorite Thing About Working at ClaimWizard?
ClaimWizard genuinely cares about its clients and employees. This ethos is reflected in everything we do and is what makes it such a fantastic place to work. While many companies claim to treat their employees like family, ClaimWizard truly walks the talk, and that authenticity is something I deeply admire.
Professional Background
As a software engineer, I’ve had the privilege of working across various industries, gaining a diverse and well-rounded skill set. My career began in IT infrastructure and telecommunications during college, where I developed my technical and problem-solving abilities. I later transitioned to the energy sector, working with one of the nation’s largest transportation carriers to develop software solutions that improved operational efficiency and logistics. During this time, I earned my Security+ certification to specialize in IT and software security.
I joined ClaimWizard in 2019 where I apply my expertise to create innovative web and mobile applications that empower claims adjusters in their daily work.
Personal Background and Interests
I’m a proud father of two, a dog owner, and a car enthusiast who loves home improvement projects. One of my most memorable experiences was rebuilding a 40-foot retention wall with my teenage daughter, complete with a building permit and an excavator. By the end of the two-month project, her arms were impressively toned from all the gravel shoveling!
Planning, organizing, and executing projects—whether at work or home—is my true passion.
Milestones in Professional Development
In addition to my software engineering career, I come from a family of restaurateurs and have launched three successful restaurants, including one currently operating in Monterrey, Mexico.
This entrepreneurial background has given me a unique perspective, helping me empathize with our clients and approach software development with a business owner’s mindset.
